Six Austin spots your dog already wishes you knew about

Austin is a good town to be a dog in. We spend a lot of time outside with our own, and customers trade tips at the register all day. Here is the short list we keep coming back to.

For the swimmers

Red Bud Isle is the classic off-leash spot on the water, with shallow entries for the cautious and deeper coves for the dogs who think they are otters. Go early on hot days; it fills up fast and the parking is tight.

For the long walkers

The Barton Creek Greenbelt gives you miles of shaded trail and plenty of places to dip in when it has rained recently. Bring more water than you think you need, for both of you, and watch the trail temperature in summer.

For the patio crowd

Plenty of South Congress patios keep a water bowl by the door and a jar of treats behind the bar. Leash up, mind the foot traffic, and you have got an easy afternoon. Swing by the shop first; we are right on the avenue and the treats are on the house.
